DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY
COMMUTATIVE PROPERTYDefinition: Changing the order of the factors will not change the product
Example: 8 x 5 = 40 5 x 8 = 40 ASSOCIATIVE PROPERTYDefinition: When multiplying many factors, the way they are grouped will not change the product
Example: 3 x (4 x 2) = (3 x 4) x 2 3 x 8 = 12 x 2 24 = 24 |
ZERO PROPERTY
Definition: When multiplying by zero, the product is zero.
Examples: 4 x 0 = 0 0 x 7 = 0 DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTYDefinition: Multiplying a number by a sum of numbers is equal to multiplying the number by each addend and adding the products
Example: 2 x ( 3 + 4) = (2 x 3) + (2 x 4) |
